Pending
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 31, 2026
Pending ("Pending", "we", "us", or "our") is a private group-poll app operated by Allen
Tackie. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the
choices you have. By using Pending you agree to this policy.
The short version: Pending exists to let friends drop anonymous polls and
reveal the results together. We collect only what the app needs to work — your name, avatar,
the polls and votes you create, and a token to send you notifications. We do not
show ads, run analytics or third-party trackers, or sell your data.
Information we collect
-
Account information. A display name and avatar you choose. If you sign in
with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from that provider (with Sign in
with Apple, this may be a private relay email). If you don't sign in, your account is tied
anonymously to your device.
-
Content you create. The polls, options, votes, comments ("roasts"),
reactions, group names, and group join codes you and your groups generate.
-
Group membership. Which groups you belong to and who else is in them.
-
Device token. A push-notification token so we can alert you when a poll
drops, a result reveals, or a weekly recap is ready.
-
Subscription status. If you subscribe to Ghost Mode or Pending+, we receive
your subscription status from Apple. We never receive or store your payment card
details — all billing is handled by Apple.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, browsing history, or
advertising identifiers.
How votes and anonymity work
Pending is built around revealing votes, so please understand how this works:
-
When you vote, your choice is hidden from other members until everyone has voted (or a
decision poll's deadline passes). At that reveal moment, your name and your
vote can become visible to the other members of that group.
-
Ghost Mode (paid) keeps a vote anonymous permanently.
-
Time Bomb (free) hides a vote at the reveal but automatically reveals it to
the group about 24 hours later — you are told this before you use it.
-
Anyone who has your group's 6-digit join code can join that group and see its polls and
results. Share codes only with people you trust.
How we use your information
- To create and run your account, groups, and polls.
- To deliver reveals, reactions, comments, streaks, and weekly recaps.
- To send push notifications you've enabled.
- To provide and manage subscriptions.
- To keep Pending safe — for example, acting on reports of abusive content.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the app:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Cloud Firestore), and server functions that store your account and content.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and App Store subscription processing.
- Google — Sign in with Google (if you choose it).
- Expo & Apple Push Notification service — to deliver notifications.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or the public.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account from within
the app at any time, which removes your profile and disassociates your content. You may also
request deletion by contacting us at the email below. Some information may persist in backups
for a limited period, and content you shared into a group may remain visible to that group's
history unless removed.
Security
We use Firebase's security rules and platform protections to safeguard your data, including
rules that keep votes unreadable until a poll reveals. No method of transmission or storage is
perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Pending is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information,
contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California's CCPA), you may have the
right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to certain
processing. To exercise these rights, use the in-app deletion tools or contact us.
International users
Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country, including the United
States, where our service providers operate. By using Pending you consent to this transfer.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for
significant changes, notify you in the app.
